A small but mighty software engineering team.

We build and modernise software for businesses across New Zealand and overseas, working closely with founders and product teams from the first decisions through delivery.

01

How we are set up

A closely involved team

The people you meet in the first conversation are the people who build your software, and they stay on it through to handover. We take on a limited number of engagements at a time, and most of us have worked together for years across different companies and projects.

Experience stays on the project

Experienced engineers make the design decisions, review the code, and remain accountable for what ships.

Specialists when a project needs them

When a project needs skills we do not have in-house, such as user research, visual design or penetration testing, we bring in specialists we have worked with before and introduce them to you by name.

Decades of experience on every project

Everyone who works on your project has well over a decade each of building and running production software, across both startups and larger companies.

Founder

Charles Vallance
Founder & Principal Engineer

Charles Vallance

Charles has more than 25 years of software engineering experience across New Zealand and North America. He was an early engineer at Sharesies, where he worked on the NZX and ASX trading platform, and he founded Crave Tech to do the same kind of careful engineering for smaller businesses.

Charles is an outstanding technologist with deep full-stack and lifecycle understanding, plus strong finance-domain knowledge. He helped design and build some of our most challenging services in record time.

Working for equity

For funded startups, we may agree to take part of our fee as equity when the product, team, and timing are a good fit.

What we look for

A useful product, a team that can make decisions quickly, and enough funding to support the work through a first release.

How it works

We agree the project scope and budget first, then discuss whether part of the fee could be taken as equity. If it may suit your situation, mention it when you get in touch.
